MCS Hiring Developmental Reading Teachers
Memphis City Schools invites applicants to teach secondary developmental reading through the district-wide focus on improving the reading and achievement of all students assigned in the Striving School Zone and Achievement School District. This is a unique opportunity to affect the student achievement of our highest need students, closing the achievement gap for those students that need the most support. This commitment will include attending customized professional development, collecting data, and providing feedback to the principal and to the appropriate district staff. Additionally, teachers will develop and implement lesson plans to provide diversified reading strategies and activities specifically designed for targeted students. The developmental reading teacher will help students develop the ability to comprehend difficult texts, learn strategies to decode unfamiliar words, and understand and interpret meaning. Emphasis is placed on the basic reading skills including main idea, context clues and inferences.
Candidates selected for Developmental Reading positions in the Achievement School District (ASD) sites (Frayser High, Hamilton High, Kingsbury High, Manassas High, Northside High, Raleigh-Egypt Middle School, Sheffield, and Trezevant High) may be eligible for bonus pay and additional compensation for extended day schedules at these schools.
