Tennessee was one of two states (the other is Delaware) to be selected for President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan’s Race to the Top funding.  Forty-one states submitted applications, but only Tennessee and Delaware met the bar in this first round of funding.  This news, coupled with Memphis City Schools’ Teacher Effectiveness Initiative puts the state and city on the leading edge of national education reform.
